Romanians of DC cordially invites you to a new edition of "Romanian Social” which will take place on Wednesday, March 16 starting at 6 pm at Cantina Bambina located at 960 Wharf Street, SW, Washington, DC at the Wharf. This edition is dedicated to the light installation “Mi-e dor de tine” (I miss you) which has been on display on the District Pier since February 14.
The exhibition “Mi-e dor de tine” is scheduled to last until March 21st and is dedicated to the Romanian diaspora living in the DC area. It is one of the most recognizable contemporary art installations in modern Romania, being already exhibited in London (2019) and Chicago (2021) to great public admiration. It finds its answer in two sister-artworks “Și mie” (Me too) and “Te aștept” (I’m waiting for you) currently on display in Sibiu and Bucharest, Romania. It was made possible by the Daisler Association with the support of CEC Bank, the Romanian Embassy to the United States, and the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York. We owe its presence in Washington, DC to the hard work and dedication of Daniela Kammrath who will also be our guest of honor at this edition.
The Romanian Social is a continuation of the past Romanian Happy Hours organized for eight years by ASTROM, the precursor organization of Romanian of DC. Almost 50 Romanian Happy Hours were organized over the years creating a space in which hundreds of Romanian and Moldovan professionals and students from the DC area and also friends of Romania and of the Republic of Moldova got to network and know one another. These events often featured special guests including Romanian Ambassadors and Parliamentarians, the Minister for Romanian Diaspora, and the Mayor of Timișoara. And as always, this Romanian Social will also be an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, make new ones and meet fellow Romanian professionals and students from the Washington, DC area.
