The second of the the two hand crafted volumes of Transylvania Florilegium is on display at the National Museum of Arts in Bucharest between April 16 and May 5, 2019. “Each set is hand-bound in leather and marbled paper, and finished with gold leaf. The Transylvania Florilegium is a sumptuous collection of stunning botanical art created by artists, craftsmen and women, botanists and scholars, and with a Preface written by HRH The Prince of Wales,” according to Addison Publications.

The Transylvania Florilegium has been organises under the supervision of The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation, in conjunction with Addison Publications and a succession of teams of botanical artists, curators and people involved in craft book production. For more than six years, carefully selected internationally renowned artists have been creating over 124 watercolour illustrations of indigenous species in Transylvania. Each artist painted up to six plants and offered them for selection as part of the final work. In the florilegium, information regarding each plant accompanies every painting.

HRH The Prince Charles of Wales is a passionate supporter of the conservation of this precious environment, and the paintings of the florilegium were created by artists studying the flora at his properties at Viscri and Zalanpatak, in Transylvania.
