Stepping into Andreia Gliga's world of art feels like embarking on a personal journey through nature's embrace and the echoes of tradition. Her pieces displayed in the exhibition aren't just artworks; they're windows into a world where the roots of Romanian culture intertwine with the rhythms of the natural world. As I explore her creations, I find myself drawn into contemplation by the clay spoons adorned with intricate Romanian symbols, evoking thoughts of nurturing life and the energy it brings. The painting featuring a house set against a sky resembling honey resonates deeply, stirring memories of the idyllic countryside and its timeless charm. For me, someone with a connection to Romanian rural life, the traditional village architecture depicted in her work elicits a wave of emotions, transporting me back to simpler times.
But it's not just nostalgia that Andreia's art evokes; it's also a celebration of life's vitality and the promise of renewal. Her botanical paintings burst forth with vibrant hues, capturing the essence of spring's arrival and the boundless energy of nature's rebirth. Through her unique artistic vision, Andreia invites us to embrace the beauty of the natural world and find solace in its perpetual cycle of growth and rejuvenation.
“I grouped my 2024 Romanian at Heart exhibit into two distinctive and symbiotic parts. The first is centered around the " heart of the universe," the grandparents' house. The painting depicts an atemporal space dripped in honey skies and surrounded by softly rolling hills. The time seems to have stopped, and only the essence of things is carried into perpetuity.
Pairing the painting with some handmade clay spoons was a perfect choice. Why spoons? Because they seem to hold whatever the viewer is willing to put into them. Working with clay has always fascinated me because it's a very pure way of actually giving a new life to something shapeless, almost waiting to be born. I painted the spoons inspired by earthy colors and designs as an homage to some of Romania's most popular millennial artistic motifs.
Our national DNA is our endless columns, the patterns sawn on our national port, and the floral embellishments on pots, doors, walls, fences, and almost everywhere else. They symbolize persistence and beauty stretched into eternity.
My paintings (as the second part) are my way of stopping time. This year's works are inspired by growth, beginnings, resistance, creating new pathways, and enjoying the journey of becoming. I am fascinated by sprouts, shy greens, and fresh growth towards light. The relationship between humans and nature is one of giving and receiving.
I like playing with colors like a child playing with sun rays!”
